Massachusetts Senate Candidates Set To Debate In Springfield

With two weeks until the special election for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts the candidates meet for a debate tonight in Springfield.

Polls have consistently shown veteran Democratic Congressman Ed Markey holding a comfortable lead over Republican political newcomer  Gabriel Gomez.   Western New England University political science professor Tim Vercellotti said debates can sometimes change the dynamics of a race.

On Wednesday, President Obama is scheduled to attend a rally for Markey in Boston.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
