Ulster County Exec Announces Youth Volunteer Effort

Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan at UlsterCorps 11th Annual MLK Day Celebration of Service to recognize the county's volunteers.

In New York, the Ulster County executive unveiled another initiative ahead of his January 30th state-of-the-county address.

Democratic Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announced his Call to Service youth program during Monday’s UlsterCorps Annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration of Service. The initiative involves partnering with UlsterCorps to provide the county’s youth opportunities to serve their community. The plan includes programs to enhance the lives of senior citizens and increase the number of volunteers in emergency services fields. Ryan also wants to establish a scholarship fund to help young people whose volunteerism UlsterCorps recognizes as exceptional attend college. Last week, Ryan announced grant funding for a green careers initiative at SUNY Ulster.
