In New York, the Orange County Land Trust has announced the protection of more than 100 acres in the Town of Warwick.

The Orange County Land Trust says the 116 acres being protected are within the Highlands portion of what the state Department of Environmental Conservation terms a “Significant Biodiversity Area.” The property contains Hemlock-northern hardwood forests and the headwaters of the Trout Brook, a key tributary of the Moodna Creek, and provides an important buffer to the Doris Duke Wildlife Sanctuary section of Sterling Forest State Park. Orange County Land Trust spokesman Jeremy Schneider says that as growth and development in the county continue to rise, protecting important lands like these becomes even more crucial.
