A teen has been sent to jail following guilty pleas in February in a case involving the spray-painting of anti-Semitic graffiti at a Jewish cemetery in Warwick, Orange County.
A judge remanded Eric Carbonaro to the Orange County Jail until August 30 followed by probation. The Warwick teen is to return to court in February 2019, when the court will decide final sentencing terms, including whether to grant youthful offender status, a status Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler opposes. Hoovler argues the crime was a premeditated hate crime and not born out of youthful indiscretion. The charges stemmed from an investigation into the spray-painting of swastikas and other anti-Semitic symbols at the Beth Shalom Cemetery in the Town of Warwick in October 2016.
