The pilot who was killed when his helicopter crashed on the roof of a midtown Manhattan skyscraper amid heavy clouds and rain Monday has been identified. He was from Dutchess County.
The real estate company that used the helicopter confirmed that the pilot was Tim McCormack, of Clinton Corners. American Continental Properties said McCormack had flown for the company for the past five years. McCormack was formerly a volunteer fire chief for the East Clinton Fire District. A Facebook post from the East Clinton Volunteer Fire Department says McCormack was extremely respected by not only the members of the department, but throughout the Dutchess County fire service. FAA records say McCormack had been certified in 2004 to fly helicopters and single-engine airplanes. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and Congressman Antonio Delgado issued statements mourning the community’s loss.
