NY Counties Receive Casino License Fees

Christopher Chappelear

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that 22 counties and three municipalities across upstate New York are receiving $30.2 million in license fees paid by resort casinos, including in the Hudson Valley.

The Hudson Valley/Catskills region will receive $10.2 million, before the Montreign Resort Casino opens its doors in spring of 2018. The Town of Thompson and Sullivan County split 10 percent of the revenue, receiving $2.5 million each for their roles as Montreign's host municipality and county. Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Orange and Ulster Counties share another 10 percent of the revenue, as laid out in the Upstate New York Gaming and Economic Development Act of 2013. The remaining $40.8 million is being distributed to public schools statewide. The Capital Region and Eastern Southern Tier/Finger Lakes region will receive $10 million each.
