A paving project is set to begin later this month on a Westchester parkway prone to flooding.
The New York State Department of Transportation will carry out a fall paving project designed to reduce the frequency of flooding on the Saw Mill River Parkway southbound in Pleasantville. The project calls for paving about 900 feet between Bedford Road and Marble Avenue. It will raise the road bed about three inches and pave the Marble Avenue exit ramp. The section to be repaved is built in a marshy area on a peat bog, so it is subject to settling. Over time, the roadway’s elevation drops, making it susceptible to flooding. The DOT last resurfaced this section of the parkway in 1998. In announcing the project, Governor Andrew Cuomo notes the contractor is W.M Schultz Construction of Ballston Spa, in Saratoga County.
