Moms' Group Calls For Gun Safety Measures Via Lemonade Stands

The Hudson Valley chapter of a national mothers group that wants Congress to pass gun safety measures is setting up a lemonade stand Tuesday in Rockland County.

During Congress' August recess, members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America have been holding lemonade stands across the country to call for Congress to pass background check legislation when congressional members return in the fall. The grassroots, nonpartisan mothers group says Congress gave America lemons in April when the Senate failed to pass legislation that would have expanded background checks on gun sales. Moms Demand Action’s New York Hudson Valley Chapter will host a Lemonade Stand from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in front of Sign of the Times on Main Street in Nyack. Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey will stop by at noon, along with Democratic state Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee and other elected officials, to show their support. A Massachusetts chapter is holding a lemonade stand Wednesday at Faneuil Hall.
