The Gilbert Players are back with Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical! Nuncrackers is the first TV special taped by the Little Sisters of Hoboken in their convent basement studio for Cable Access. It stars the nuns you love, plus Father Virgil and some of Mount Saint Helen’s most talented students. This show is filled with wacky Nunsense humor, some of your favorite carols, a “Secret Santa,” and an uproarious take on Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet. A multiple Tony Award-winning theatrical tour-de-force, Assassins combines Stephen Sondheim’s signature blend of intelligently stunning lyrics and beautiful music with a panoramic story of our nation’s culture of celebrity and the violent means some will use to obtain it. Assassins lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical musical that explores the dark side of the American experience. Bending the rules of time and space, Assassins takes audiences on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius.
