Rockland on the road to financial recovery, says Vanderhoef

NEW CITY – Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef delivered his final state of the county address to the County Legislature Tuesday night taking aim at budget and financial challenges and the county’s experiences with Hurricane Sandy.

Vanderhoef, who is retiring at the end of the year, spent a significant amount of time discussing the county’s budget woes, assuring county residents the worst of the recession was over but more structural changes were necessary.

A Rockland Man Allegedly Threatened NY Politicians

NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) — Police have accused a Hudson Valley man of making death threats on Facebook against New York’s governor, New York City’s mayor, and several members of Congress. Police say they found two rifles, bayonets, ammunition. and body armor at the man’s Rockland County home. Clarkstown police say 49-year-old Lawrence Mulqueen of Nanuet was arraigned Thursday on charges of making terroristic threats, illegally possessing weapons, and harassment. Police were called Wednesday afternoon by Mulqueen's landlady, who said he'd been harassing her. They say she tipped them to Mulqueen's alleged threats, made on a Facebook page under a pseudonym. Police say the FBI helped with the investigation. A town court clerk says no lawyer is listed for Mulqueen in court records. Mulqueen is being held until a court date Monday.

Rockland County Legislature votes down gun control requests to state government

NEW CITY – The Rockland County Legislature Tuesday night voted on three separate resolutions pressing both federal and state lawmakers in Albany to implement additional gun control and mental health legislation, including amendments to the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act.

The Tri-State Area Awaits Sandy Disaster-Relief Funds

President Barack Obama says he'll sign a $50.5 billion emergency measure for Superstorm Sandy victims as soon as it lands on his desk. The U.S. Senate approved the bill Monday after the House earlier this month had stripped the bill of spending unrelated to disasters.
