NY report shows telemarketers get the money

The New York Attorney General's Charities Bureau reports telemarketers kept on average 61.5 cents of every dollar they raised last year, providing 38.5 cents for the charities themselves. WAMC’s Dave Lucas has more.

The report, issued Friday,  shows 602 campaigns brought in almost $240.6 million, with $92.7 million going to the charities, which actually lost money in 76 telemarketing campaigns.

Many campaigns also list large amounts of uncollected pledges.

Sandy K.O.'s NY Jobs Numbers

State labor officials say job losses from Superstorm Sandy cut into gains made this year in New York's employment numbers. WAMC's Dave Lucas has more.

Statewide Labor Market Analyst Kevin Jack says 29,100 private sector jobs were lost in November because of the storm's impact on the New York City area, cutting total job gains for the year to 83,500.

Chief United States District Court Judge Gary Sharpe has adjourned a Feb. 4 trial date - the Albany Times Union reports he did so because the 83-year old Bruno's attorneys are making a "double jeopardy" appeal

Bruno lawyer E. Stewart Jones Jr. told the newspaper that by appealing, the former senator from Brunswick won't have his case tried before May and perhaps as late as June, unless the matter is dismissed.
