Officials across the political spectrum today are recognizing the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died Friday at age 87.
But Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s assertion that there will be a vote on the Senate floor to confirm a judicial nomination by President Donald Trump is being met with pushback from Democrats.
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer of New York tweeted a direct quote from Leader McConnell in 2016, when the Republican denied a hearing to President Obama’s third nominee for the Supreme Court, Merrick Garland, saying:
“The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”
