Two weeks after many campuses started the fall semester, SUNY says all of its colleges and universities will implement a testing program to continually monitor for COVID-19.

In a statement Friday, SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras says pooled testing piloted at Upstate Medical University and UAlbany makes it possible to test every student every two weeks.

It comes after SUNY Oneonta, with hundreds of coronavirus cases among students, abruptly shifted to online instruction for the rest of the fall semester.

Malatras spoke Thursday at Oneonta:

“We will be doing mandatory testing throughout the SUNY system at all of our colleges and universities,” Malatras said.

SUNY says it will be able to conduct 100,000 tests a week, and all students, faculty and staff will be regularly tested.
