The Berkshire Bach Society presents “Bach at New Year’s” with a program of all six of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti at three locations in our region: Monday, December 30 at 3 p.m. at the Academy of Music in Northampton, Massachusetts; Tuesday, December 31 at 6 p.m. at The Mahaiwe in Great Barrington, Massachusetts; and Wednesday, January 1 at 3 p.m. at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy, New York.

A Great Barrington, Massachusetts town police officer is off the job after a drunk driving arrest over the weekend.

Great Barrington Historical Society's 2019 lecture at St. James Place In Great Barrington, Massachusetts is: "Elizabeth Freeman’s Case for Freedom: The End of Slavery in Massachusetts and the Black Berkshire Community in Post-Colonial America." The talk by Dr. David Levinson is scheduled for May 11.

Levinson is a cultural anthropologist and former vice-president at Yale University's Human Relations Area Files, an anthropological think-tank. He is co-author of “One Minute a Free Woman: Elizabeth Freeman and the Struggle for Freedom.”


Great Barrington, Massachusetts, will soon have a new town manager. With the current manager’s contract expiring at the end of June, the selectboard has invited Mark Pruhenski – currently the town administrator of nearby Richmond – to take the job. Select board member Ed Abrahams says the town’s staff is enthusiastic about Pruhenski, and also praised his knowledge of the area. For his part, Pruhenski told WAMC on Thursday that he’s accepted the invitation and is excited to sign a contract so he can start working this summer.

The Berkshires’ Jewish Festival of Books -- held at Hevreh of Southern Berkshire -- and The Berkshire Jewish Film Festival of Knesset Israel are collaborating on an Egg Cream Eggstravaganza on Saturday, February 16 at 7 p.m. at Hevreh of Southern Berkshire in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

The evening will begin with a screening of the short film “Egg Cream” by Nora Claire Miller, Peter Miller and Amy Linton. Following the film, author Barry Joseph will give the audience a taste via video of his book “Seltzertopia: The Extraordinary Story of an Ordinary Drink.” Then, audience members will be invited to share their own egg cream reminiscences and enjoy real siphon bottle seltzer, milk, and Fox’s U-Bet egg creams.

We were joined by Berkshire Jewish Film Festival Executive Director, Judy Seaman; Co-Chair of the Berkshires’ Jewish Festival of Books Avi Dresner; and “Egg Cream” co-director Peter Miller.

A community radio station in Berkshire County has found a new home. February 1st, WBCR signed a lease on a new studio in downtown Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The low-power FM station – also known as the Berkshire Community Radio Alliance – will enjoy a major visibility upgrade from a basement to the main strip of the Southern Berkshires’ largest community. Operations committee member Judy Eddy spoke to WAMC about the station’s history, and what it hopes to do with its new home.
