#SportsReport: UAlbany Women's BB, Siena Men's BB Advance To Title Games

NCAA:

In men’s college basketball, UAlbany will take on Stony Brook in the America East tournament’s semifinals tonight at 7:30 p.m. No. 1 Vermont will take on New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, Siena upset No. 1 Monmouth 89-85 in the MAAC tournament and will take on Iona in the championship today at 9 p.m.

In women’s college basketball, UAlbany will take on Maine in the America East title game Friday night at 4:30 p.m.

Four Washington State pitchers combined for the school's first no-hitter since 1985, beating Stephen F. Austin 7-3 to cap a doubleheader sweep Sunday.

The 21st-ranked Wichita State Shockers have landed an automatic berth in the NCAA men's basketball tournament by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title game. Conner Frankamp scored 19 points and the Shockers picked up their 15th consecutive victory by ripping Illinois State, 71-51. Frankamp had 13 points by halftime to help Wichita State take a 33-25 lead into intermission. Markis McDuffie added 16 points and Landry Shamat chipped in 14 as the Shockers improved to 30-4 overall. Conference player of the year Paris Lee had 18 points for the Redbirds, who had won eight straight since a loss at Wichita State on Feb. 4.

In other major basketball finals:

— Vincent Edwards scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half as 16th-ranked Purdue got past Northwestern, 69-65. Caleb Swanigan added 20 points and 14 rebounds to help the Boilermakers end up 14-4 in the Big Ten heading into the conference tournament.

— Cincinnati finishes 16-2 in the American Athletic Conference after Gary Clark's 17 points and 14 rebounds led the 18th-ranked Bearcats to a 67-47 rout of Connecticut. Jarron Cumberland added 15 points and Jacob Evans III had 12 in Cincinnati's 27th win.

— Bronson Koenig scored 17 points in his final home game and No. 22 Wisconsin secured the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten tourney by whipping Minnesota, 66-49. Koenig and D'Mitrick Trice combined to ignite an 18-2 run over a six-minute stretch of the second half that gave the Badgers a 13-point lead with 11:32 left.

— Winthrop has earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2010 by beating Campbell 76-59 in the Big South Conference title game. Keon Johnson's 26 points led the 26-6 Eagles.

NHL:

In the NHL, Calgary beat the Islanders 5-2, Columbus shut out New Jersey 3-0, Pittsburgh edged Buffalo 4-3, Minnesota defeated San Jose 3-1, Vancouver slid past Anaheim 2-1, St. Louis blanked Colorado 3-0, and it was Carolina 2-1.

NBA:

In the NBA, Golden State topped the Knicks 112-105, Phoenix bested Boston 109-106, Washington beat Orlando 115-114, Indiana bested Atlanta 97-96, Utah won against Sacramento in overtime 110-109, Dallas crushed Oklahoma 104-89, and it was New Orleans over the Lakers 105-97.

MLS:

Cyle Larin scored the first goal at the new Orlando City Stadium, Joe Bendik had seven saves and Orlando City beat New York City FC 1-0 on Sunday night in the season opener for both teams. Larin, who scored an MLS rookie-record 17 goals in 2015, has 32 goals in 54 career games.

New York scored two second-half goals in a span of about 6 minutes and the Red Bulls rallied for a 2-1 victory over Atlanta United on Sunday night. New York's comeback spoiled the inaugural Major League Soccer match for Atlanta United, the expansion team that had the support of a sellout crowd of 55,000.

MLB:

In baseball spring training, St. Louis bested the Mets 14-11, the Yankees won against Pittsburgh 3-2, and Boston blew out Atlanta 11-1.

PGA:

Dustin Johnson is a winner in his first tournament since being elevated to the top of the world golf ranking. Johnson played mistake-fee over the final five holes to close out a victory at the PGA's Mexico Championship. He saw a four-shot advantage become a one-shot deficit before he birdied 15 and closed with three solid pars for a 3-under 68.

LPGA:

Lorena Ochoa is going to make a brief return to LPGA Tour competition. The Hall of Famer and Mexico's greatest golfer has announced that she will compete in her tournament on May 4-7 in Mexico City. It will be her first LPGA event in five years. Ochoa was 28 and at the top of her game when she shocked the golf world by announcing her retirement in April 2010.

NASCAR:

Kevin Harvick's penalty helped Brad Keselowski capture the second race of NASCAR's Monster Energy Cup season. Keselowski surged ahead on the backstretch with six laps to go and held on for a half-second victory over Kyle Larson. Matt Kenseth was third, followed by Kasey Kahne (kayn) and Chase Elliott.
