NHL:
In the NHL, Tampa Bay beat Carolina in overtime 4-3 and Chicago beat Pittsburgh 4-1.
A person with knowledge of the NHL's decision says Boston Bruins defenseman Colin Miller will not be suspended for his hit that forced Arizona Coyotes forward Alex Burmistrov to leave the ice on a stretcher. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the NHL does not typically announce when no punishment is given. The person says officials deemed Miller's hit clean.
The NHL trade deadline passed Wednesday afternoon without the usual flurry of activity. The league said there were 18 trades completed involving 33 players, the lowest totals since 30 players were moved in 17 transactions four years ago. The Avalanche traded veteran forward Jarome Iginla to the Kings for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2018 draft. The deal came with Los Angeles one point behind St. Louis for the final Western Conference playoff berth. The only other notable move involved the Detroit Red Wings, who traded veteran forward Thomas Vanek to the Florida Panthers for defenseman Dylan McIlrath and a conditional third-round pick in June.
In other deadline swaps:
— The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Dwight King from the Kings for a fourth-round pick. The Habs also got fourth-line center Steve Ott from Detroit.
— The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up defensemen Mark Streit and Frankie Corrado in separate deals. Pittsburgh sent forwards Eric Fehr and Steve Oleksy and a draft pick to Toronto for Corrado. Tampa Bay got a fourth-rounder in 2018 for Streit.
— The Predators have added forward P.A. Parenteau from the New Jersey Devils for a sixth-round pick. The Devils also shipped Dalton Prout to Columbus for Kyle Quincey.

In the NBA, the Knicks beat Orlando 101-90, Brooklyn bested Sacramento 109-100, Boston topped Cleveland 103-99, Miami won against Philadelphia 125-98, Houston topped the Clippers 122-103, Minnesota beat Utah 107-80, San Antonio squeaked by Indiana 100-99, Denver won against Milwaukee 110-98, New Orleans defeated Detroit 109-86, Washington bested Toronto 105-96, and it was Atlanta over Dallas 100-95.
It's going to be a while before Kevin Durant returns to the Golden State Warriors' lineup. The All-Star forward is out indefinitely with a sprained MCL in his left knee and a bone bruise in his leg. The injuries occurred early in the first quarter of Tuesday's 112-108 loss at Washington.
Joel Embiid's knee injury has forced the Philadelphia 76ers to shelve their rookie center for the remainder of the season. He has a torn meniscus that is worse than the team first thought, ending his season after he averaged 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in just 31 games.
The NBA champion Cavaliers have bolstered their roster as they face the stretch run. The newest acquisition is big man Andrew Bogut, who chose the Cavs over the Spurs, Rockets and Celtics.
NCAA:
In college men's basketball, Anthony Lamb hit all 10 of his shots from the field and finished with 23 points as top-seeded Vermont routed Maine in an American East tournament quarterfinal game yesterday. The Catamounts, who were undefeated in conference play, opened up a 45-16 lead in the first half. They advance to face New Hampshire in the semifinals at Burlington.
David Nichols, playing in his first game since the death of his sister, tied Albany's 60-year-old record for most points in a game with 40, leading the Great Danes to a 100-71 victory over Hartford last night in the first round of the America East Tournament. Jalen Ross scored 22 points and Jason Dunne 20 for the sixth-seeded Hawks.
Jaleen Smith and Tanner Leissner each scored 20 points and combined on 16-for-26 shooting and New Hampshire beat Maryland-Baltimore County 74-65 in a quarterfinal contest in an American East Conference Tournament game last night. Iba Camara had a double-double for New Hampshire with 10 points and 16 rebounds with five coming on the offensive end.
Lucas Woodhouse made five 3-pointers and scored 24 points and Stony Brook pulled away early to beat Binghamton 70-60 in an America East Tournament quarterfinal game Wednesday night.
Caleb White poured in a career-high 28 points in his final home game, leading East Carolina to a 66-62 upset of UConn yesterday on the Pirates' Senior Night.
ShawnDre' Jones made a career-tying six 3-pointers and scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half when Richmond pulled away from Massachusetts for a 75-64 win last night. Luwane Pipkins scored 19 points, Rashaan Holloway 15 and Brison Gresham 12 for the Minutemen, who have lost four of their last five.
In college women's basketball, Kaylan Pugh scored 20 points and Number 10 seed Georgia Tech defeated Number 15 seed Boston College 71-67 in the first round of the ACC Tournament yesterday. Mariella Fasoula scored 21 points with nine rebounds, Kailey Edwards added 13 and Kelly Hughes 12 for the Eagles.
Syracuse guard Alexis Peterson is the women's basketball player of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while North Carolina State's Wes Moore is the coach of the year.The ACC on Wednesday announced its individual award winners. A panel of school representatives and media members also selected Georgia Tech's Francesca Pan as freshman of the year.
In a separate vote, league coaches picked Notre Dame's Brianna Turner as the defensive player of the year for the second straight year and also chose Florida State center Chatrice White as the top reserve. Peterson averaged a league-best 23.6 points for the 21st-ranked Orange (20-9). Moore became the first N.C. State coach to win the women's award, leading the Wolfpack (22-7) to the No. 4 seed in this week's ACC Tournament.
The MAAC Tournament starts up today. Canisius takes on Marist at 7 p.m. in Albany. Quinnipiac goes head to head with Niagara at 5 p.m. Siena faces Fairfield on Saturday at 9:30 p.m.

In baseball’s spring training, the Yankees beat Atlanta 8-7, Baltimore blasted Boston 12-5, St. Louis topped the Mets 6-1.
NFL:
Former New England Patriots cornerback Will Allen and his business partner have been sentenced to prison for running a Ponzi scheme that took in more than $35 million. A federal judge sentenced Allen and Susan Daub each to six years in prison. They also were ordered to pay restitution of $17 million. Allen and Daub collected millions from investors, telling them it would be used for loans to pro athletes. They diverted much of the money to themselves.
The NFL salary cap for the upcoming season will be $167 million per team, up more than $12 million over last year. The league and the NFL Players Association compile the cap from specific revenues, and it has risen annually. It was $143.28 million two years ago. This is the fourth consecutive year the cap has risen at least $10 million.
The Los Angeles Rams placed the franchise tag on cornerback Trumaine Johnson for the second straight year. Johnson and the team can negotiate a long-term deal until July 15, or he can play next season under the franchise tender as the NFL's highest-paid cornerback.
USWNT:
Lynn Williams scored her second career goal and the U.S. women's soccer team kicked off its 2017 slate with a 1-0 victory over Germany last night in a matchup of the world's top two teams. Alyssa Naeher made an early diving save and earned the shutout for the top-ranked Americans in the SheBelieves Cup, a four-team round-robin tournament that also includes England and France.
MLS:
The New York Red Bulls signed goalkeeper Kyle Reynish and traded him to Atlanta United. In announcing the deal yesterday, the Red Bulls said they would receiver Atlanta's fourth-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Reynish spent the last two seasons with the Red Bulls. He trained with Atlanta United in the preseason.
Olympics:
The bid by the city of Los Angeles to host the 2024 Summer Olympics has gotten stronger. Budapest's assembly has approved a motion to withdraw the city's bid for the Games. The decision leaves Los Angeles and Paris as the only remaining candidates. The International Olympic Committee will choose the host city in September.
