Sports Report: Golden State Warriors Take Game 7

NBA:

In the NBA playoffs, Golden State bet Oklahoma City 96-88 in Game 7, erasing a 3-1 deficit to advance to the Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

NHL:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have taken Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals by beating San Jose 3-2

MLB:

In baseball, in the American League, Boston topped Baltimore 7-2 as Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts extended his hitting streak to 23, Toronto doubled up the Yankees 4-2, Kansas City beat Tampa Bay 6-2, the Angels won against Detroit 5-1, Texas bested Cleveland 9-2, and Oakland slid past Minnesota 3-2.

In the National League, Atlanta beat San Francisco 5-3, St. Louis blanked Milwaukee 6-0, Cincinnati won against Colorado 11-8, the Cubs shut out the Dodgers 2-0, Washington edged Philadelphia 4-3, and it was Pittsburgh over Miami 10-0.

In interleague play, the Mets blanked the White Sox 1-0, Houston beat Arizona 8-3, and Seattle defeated San Diego 9-3.

Bogaerts' hitting streak comes after teammate Jackie Bradley Jr. hit safely in 29 straight games to fall five shy of the team record held by Dom DiMaggio in 1949. Bradley, David Ortiz and Marco Hernandez homered as the Red Sox stretched their lead in the American League East to two games over the Orioles.NCAA:

Five New England schools have landed in the 64-team field for the NCAA baseball tournament. Rhode Island, Bryant, Fairfield, UConn and Boston College were named to the field yesterday, with double-elimination regional play to open on Friday at 16 sites around the country. The field also includes Princeton and Binghamton.

Swimming:

A New York man, who graduated from SUNY Cortland, drowned during lifeguard tryouts at a lake at Pilgrim Lake on Cape Cod had been a collegiate swimmer who planned to become an assistant swim coach at his alma mater in New York. Authorities tell the Cape Cod Times 22-year-old Jack Jakubek had also previously worked as a lifeguard in Orleans.

Horse Racing:

Weekend Hideaway and Bar of Gold won the $200,000 stakes yesterday at Belmont Park. The 10 races on the card were restricted to New York-bred horses for Big Apple Showcase Day. At Monmouth Park yesterday, She's Hot Wired won the $60,000 Open Mind Handicap by a nose over Bustin Out.

Tennis:

With more bad weather expected Tuesday, French Open organizers are trying to get as many matches as possible out of the way before the rain. After Monday's complete washout at the clay-court Grand Slam, matches will start at 11 a.m. — three hours earlier than initially planned — and be spread over more courts.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic takes on 14th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut in the first match on Court Philippe Chatrier, playing for a place in the quarterfinals.

They will be followed by defending champion Serena Williams in her delayed fourth-round match against 18th-seeded Elina Svitolina. The first men's quarterfinals are also scheduled: Second-seeded Andy Murray against Richard Gasquet, and defending champion Stan Wawrinka against Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
