Florida Panthers 44-year-old forward Jaromir Jagr is one of the three finalists for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, given to the player who best displays perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Jagr had 27 goals and 66 points in 79 games in helping the Panthers win the Atlantic Division this season. The other finalists are Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello and recently-retired forward Pascal Dupuis. The winner will be announced at the NHL Awards on June 22 at Las Vegas.

In interleague play, the Dodgers doubled up Tampa Bay 10-5, Milwaukee edged the Angels 5-4, and it was Kansas City over Washington 7-6.

A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that there's a very good chance the Miami Marlins' two-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Puerto Rico will not be held there because of concerns about the Zika virus. Player representative Tom Koehler says Marlins players attended a seminar on Zika that heightened concerns about playing the games in San Juan on May 30-31. Koehler added that an announcement regarding those games is expected by the end of the week.

Pablo Sandoval is done for the season after the Boston Red Sox third baseman underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum. Sandoval helped the Giants to World Series titles in 2010, '12 and '14, but the third baseman has struggled since joining the Red Sox. He lost his starting job during spring training after hitting a career-low .245 for Boston last season.

NFL:

A federal appeals court is giving New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady a two week extension to appeal his suspension in the "Deflategate" scandal. Since last month's ruling for the NFL upholding the suspension, Brady has added another attorney to his legal team. He now has until May 23 to decide on pursuing an appeal.

Also in the NFL:

— The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a five-year, $65 million contract extension with starting left tackle Cordy Glenn. The new contract replaces the $13.7 million franchise tag Glenn signed in March.

— Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says left tackle Terron Armstead has agreed to a five-year extension through the 2021 season. The third-round pick in the 2013 draft has been a starter since late in his rookie season. Armstead started 13 games last season despite a nagging knee injury that sidelined him from numerous practices.

Swimming:

USA Swimming has barred former Fordham and Harvard swim instructor Joe Bernal from coaching within its ranks, saying he violated sexual misconduct policies put in place to protect athletes. The organization has not detailed the alleged violations. Bernal began his coaching career at Fordham and was inducted into its hall of fame in 2009.

NCAA:

Rutgers' Scott Bieda has been named the Big Ten's offensive player of the year in lacrosse. Bieda had 26 goals and 36 assists for the Scarlet Knights. Adam Charalambides was also named freshman of the year after scoring 35 goals in his initial season and Brian Brecht was named the conference's coach of the year.

The Big East and Big Ten have announced the lineup of games for the second annual Gavitt Tipoff tournament, with national champion Villanova among the teams taking part. Villanova will visit Purdue in the games' opening contest. The other teams include Rutgers playing at DePaul. The series is named for Big East founder Dave Gavitt.

A Minnesota state university system is prohibiting athletics teams from traveling to tournaments in North Carolina this spring after that state passed a law limiting LGBT protections. Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system communications director Doug Anderson said no teams will participate in tournaments in North Carolina this spring. The NCAA Division II national baseball tournament and National Junior College Athletic Association Division III World Series are set to take place in North Carolina.

PGA:

Former British Open champion Stewart Cink says he is taking a break from golf after learning his wife has breast cancer. Cink posted the news on Twitter, saying the family is still in the process of figuring things out. He points out that she has been his biggest supporter since he was 15 and "it's now time for me to return the favor."

Olympics – Hockey:

There appears to be a real chance that the best players in the world will not be taking part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. The head of ice hockey's international body says there is a 60 percent chance that the NHL will decline to go to the Olympics because of a lack of money to cover player insurance and travel. The International Olympic Committee has canceled its contribution to player travel and insurance costs, leaving a $10 million shortfall. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says the league cannot cover the costs.
