Larry Lucchino has issued a statement on his decision to step down as president and CEO of the Boston Red Sox. Lucchino says, "at end of the year is a good time for this change." He was part of the ownership group that purchased the Red Sox in 2002. Boston won the World Series two years later, and added two more titles in 2007 and 2013.

NFL:

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is fired up. His trash-talking and celebrations highlighted the fourth day of training camp yesterday. Brady took the vast majority of first-team snaps, even as he faces a four-game suspension for his alleged role in tampering with footballs during last season's AFC title game. He turns 38 today.

Meanwhile a man has hired a plane to fly a banner over NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's vacation home in Maine, telling him to go back to New York. WCSH-TV reports Biddeford, Maine resident Richard Pate hired a local pilot and plane on Saturday to protest the suspension of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

General manager Jerry Reese says the New York Giants defense is going to surprise people this season, even without injured star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. Reese refused to say much yesterday about Pierre-Paul, whose status for the season is in question after injuring his right hand in a fireworks incident on July 4th in Florida.

The Buffalo Bills have suspended offensive line coach Aaron Kromer without pay for the first six games of the regular season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. The suspension was announced by Bills president Russ Brandon on Sunday night. The disciplinary action comes two days after prosecutors in Florida dropped a battery charge against Kromer for allegedly punching a boy in the face for using his beach chairs last month.

The Bills placed Kromer on paid leave on July 14, two days after he was arrested. Kromer, however, will rejoin the team at training camp. His suspension will begin Sept. 7, in the week leading up to the Bills' regular-season opener against Indianapolis. The suspension will run through Buffalo's game against Cincinnati on Oct. 18.

Golf:

Top-ranked Inbee Park closed with a 7-under 65 to win the Women's British Open and become the seventh golfer to capture four different majors. The LPGA is calling it a career Grand Slam, but Park hasn't won the Evian Championship since it became a major in 2013. Park won the tournament in 2012. Park has now won seven majors and six of the last 14. The victory is her fourth of the season. Park started the day three shots back of Jin-Young Ko, who finished second.

Kenny Perry successfully defended his title in the Champions Tour's 3M Championship with a final round 4-under 68. Perry's 18-under total was four shots better than Bernhard Langer, Kevin Sutherland and Scott Dunlap.

NASCAR:

Matt Kenseth won the Sprint Cup race at Pocono when Kyle Busch ran out of fuel on the final lap in an attempt to earn his fourth straight win.

Busch and Joey Logano were trying to conserve fuel late in the race in an effort capture the win. Logano went empty with three laps to go and Busch took the lead trying for his fifth win in six races. But Busch also didn't have enough fuel and helplessly watch as Kenseth tracked him down and roared by.

Brad Keselowski finished second with Jeff Gordon third. Logano was 20th and Busch wound up 21st.

Horse Racing:

American Pharoah turned on the speed in the stretch and easily won the million Haskell Invitational in his first race since sweeping the Triple Crown.

With a record crowd of 60,983 cheering him at Monmouth Park, American Pharoah came out of the final turn with a clear lead and cruised to a 2 1/4-length victory without urging from jockey Victor Espinoza.

Sent off at odds of 1-10, American Pharoah became the shortest price in Haskell history, returning $2.20 for a $2 win bet.

American Pharoah's next start is now the biggest question in racing. There's no answer yet, but options include the Travers at Saratoga on Aug. 29, the Pennsylvania Derby on Sept. 19, and the Awesome Again at Santa Anita.

At Saratoga Race Course, in the Jim Dandy on Saturday, Texas Red took home the win.

NHL:

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier and the Toronto Maple Leafs have agreed to a two-year contract worth $8.3 million. The deal avoids an arbitrator's ruling.

Bernier had a 2.87 goals-against average and .912 save percentage for the Leafs last season.

Bernier is 76-67-20 with a 2.63 GAA and .916 save percentage in 175 games with the Leafs and Los Angeles
