Sports Report: Cavs Even Series; American Pharaoh Returns Home

NBA:

In the NBA finals, Cleveland beat Golden State 95-93 in overtime tying the series at one game apiece.

MLB:

In baseball, in the American League, the Yankees tripled up the Angels 6-2, Boston beat Oakland 7-4, Toronto edged Houston 7-6, Baltimore won against Cleveland 7-3, Detroit defeated the White Sox 6-4, Kansas City slid past Texas 4-3, and it was Tampa Bay over Seattle 3-1.

In the National League, the Mets doubled up Arizona 6-3, Pittsburgh blanked Atlanta 3-0, Philadelphia won against San Francisco 6-4, Cincinnati shut out San Diego 4-0, the Cubs topped Washington 6-3, Miami beat Colorado 3-2 in 10 innings, and it was St. Louis over the Dodgers 4-2.

In interleague play, Minnesota blanked Milwaukee 2-0.

Friends have started an online fundraiser for a woman hit by a flying bat during Friday night's game between the Oakland Athletics and the Boston Red Sox. Tonya Carpenter remains in serious condition at a Boston hospital. She was struck in the head by Oakland player Brett Lawrie's bat as she sat between home plate and the third base dugout at Fenway Park with her son and a friend.

Niskayuna’s Garrett Whitely is projected to be a first round draft pick in Major League Baseball’s draft today.

Tennis:

Eighth seed Stan Wawrinka pulled off a big upset in the men's final at the French Open, knocking off top-seed Novak Djokovic  4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. The victory is Wawrinka's second in a Grand Slam event, and his first since last year's Australian Open. The French title is the only major Djokovic has not won.

PGA:

David Lingmerth was able celebrate his first PGA victory after knocking in a par putt on the third playoff hole to outlast Justin Rose at the Memorial. Lingmerth led at the midway point of the tournament but began the final round three shots back before firing a 3-under 69 for a 15-under total. Masters champion Jordan Spieth closed with a 65 and wound up in a tie for third with Francesco Molinari of Italy at minus-13.

NASCAR:

Martin Truex Jr. led 97 of 160 laps in winning Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway. Truex had gone two years without a victory before becoming the 10th driver to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Kevin Harvick was second, followed by Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano and Kurt Busch.

NCAA:

Yale's heavyweight crew team has defeated Harvard in their 150th regatta, the nation's oldest collegiate sporting event. Yale finished almost 17 seconds ahead in the annual 4-mile race yesterday along Connecticut's Thames River. The Bulldogs' time was 18 minutes, 35.8 seconds. Harvard's was 18 minutes, 52.6 seconds. Yale beat Harvard's 1995 upstream course record of 18:41.

Horse Racing:

Triple Crown champion American Pharoah has quietly returned home to Churchill Downs. Less than 24 hours after winning the Belmont Stakes to become the 12th Triple Crown winner and first since 1978, the colt received the VIP treatment upon his return to Louisville. Police escorted American Pharoah's van from the airport to trainer Bob Baffert's Barn 33. Hundreds of fans cheered his entrance as it was broadcast over the jumbo screen overlooking the track.

WNBA:

Connecticut beat Atlanta 75-70.
