Sports Report: USOC Pulls Boston's 2024 Olympic Bid

Olympics:

Boston's bid to host the 2024 Summer Games has been pulled by the U.S. Olympic Committee following concerns by local government officials over cost over-runs. Gov. Charlie Baker announced on Friday that he wanted to see a full report from a consulting group, and the USOC cut ties with Boston organizers after Mayor Marty Walsh said Monday that he wouldn't be pressured into signing a contract that would put the city on the hook for cost over-runs.

MLB:

In baseball, in the American League, the Yankees tripled up Texas 6-2, the White Sox beat Boston 10-8, Tampa Bay won against Detroit 5-2, and it was Kansas City over Cleveland 9-4.

In the National League, the Cubs edged Colorado 9-8, St. Louis bested Cincinnati 4-1, and it was San Francisco over Milwaukee 4-2.

In interleague play, Baltimore slid past Atlanta 2-1 in 11 innings, and it was Arizona over Seattle 4-3 in 10 innings.

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired veteran outfielder Shane Victorino and more than $3.8 million from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for infielder Josh Rutledge. The 34-year-old Victorino is a two-time World Series champion, a two-time All-Star and a four-time Gold Glove winner. He's spent the past three years in Boston, batting .245 in just 33 games this season with two stints on the disabled list.

The Mets have acquired reliever Tyler Clippard from the Oakland Athletics. Clippard has gone 1-3 with 17 saves and a 2.79 ERA in 38 2/3 innings since being acquired by the A's from Washington last winter. The Mets also receive $1 million from the Athletics and send minor league hurler Casey Meisner to Oakland.

NBA:

The Golden State Warriors have completed a trade that will send two-time All-Star forward David Lee to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Gerald Wallace and Chris Babb. They agreed to the trade earlier this month, but Boston needed time to sort out other moves in free agency before acquiring Lee.

The Miami Heat has trimmed its roster and its payroll, sending Shabazz Napier to the Orlando Magic and Zoran Dragic to the Boston Celtics. Napier was a first-round selection after leading Connecticut to the 2014 NCAA title. He played in 51 games for Miami, averaging 5.1 points and 2.5 assists. Dragic is the brother of Heat guard Goran Dragic. He appeared in 16 games for the Heat.

NHL:

The New York Rangers have signed center Derek Stepan to a long-term contract. General manager Jeff Gorton announced the deal yesterday, hours before a contract arbitration hearing for Stepan. Terms were not immediately available.

Buffalo Bills president Russ Brandon is now president of the Sabres following a front-office shakeup under Terry and Kim Pegula, who own both teams. Brandon takes over for Ted Black, who reached a mutual agreement to part ways with the franchise. Brandon has been with the Bills since 1997, and has served as the team's president since 2013.

MLS:

The New York Red Bulls have completed the signing of former Manchester City and Chelsea midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips on a free transfer. The former England international will join up with his brother Bradley, a striker with the Red Bulls. He's eligible to play against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
