NFL:

The New England Patriots rallied from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to beat the defending NFL champion Seattle Seahawks 28-24 to win Super Bowl 49. Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady threw four touchdown passes, including the game-winning 3-yard strike to Julian Edelman with 2:02 left.

While 37-year-old Tom Brady won the Super Bowl MVP for the third time, the unsung hero was Malcolm Butler. The unheralded rookie strong safety out of West Alabama spoiled the Seattle Seahawks' comeback by stepping in front of Ricardo Lockette for the game-saving interception at the goal line.

Golf:

Brooks Koepka won the PGA's Phoenix Open with a final round 5-under-66, finishing one shot in front of Bubba Watson, Ryan Palmer and Hideki Matsuyama. Third round leader Martin Laird shot a 1-over 72 on the final day to finish three shots back.

Tennis:

In tennis, Novak Djokovic captured his fifth Australian Open title by defeating Andy Murray 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-love. Murray has now been runner-up in the Australian Open four times. Serena Williams won the women’s division earlier last week against Maria Sharapova.

NBA:

In the NBA, New York topped the Lakers 92-80, Miami beat Boston 83-75.

NHL:

Over on the ice, Arizona edged Montreal 3-2, St. Louis skated by Washington 4-3, Nashville blanked Pittsburgh 4-0, and it was Minnesota over Vancouver 4-2.

NCAA:

In top 25 women’s college basketball, No. 2 UConn crushed Temple 83-49.
