wikipedia.org

NFL:

The NFL has suspended Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson for at least the remainder of season. Peterson pleaded no contest earlier this month to misdemeanor reckless assault in Texas for hitting his 4-year-old son with a wooden switch.

NBA:

The Milwaukee Bucks held off the New York Knicks for a 117-113 victory last night. New York cut a 26-point deficit to 115-113 with 7.9 seconds left, but Milwaukee managed to hold on. Carmelo Anthony had 26 points for the Knicks, and Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 24.

Elsewhere the Lakers topped Atlanta 114-109, Utah beat Oklahoma City 98-81, and it was New Orleans over Sacramento 106-100.

NHL:

Over on the ice, Boston shut out St. Louis 2-0, Winnipeg beat New Jersey 3-1, the Islanders bested Tampa Bay 5-2, Buffalo won against San Jose 4-1, Nashville crushed Toronto 9-2, Detroit blanked Columbus 5-0, Carolina defeated Dallas 6-4, Calgary trumped Anaheim in a shootout 4-3, Washington beat Arizona in overtime 2-1, and it was Los Angeles over Florida 5-2.

NCAA:

Alabama has moved from fifth to first in the latest College Football Playoff ranking following Saturday's 25-20 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who fell from first to fourth. Alabama has won five in a row since a 23-17 loss to Mississippi Oct. 4. Oregon is second in the ranking, unbeaten Florida State is third, TCU is fifth and Ohio State sixth.

La Salle beat Quinnipiac 60-58, UMass topped Manhattan 77-68, and Iona fell to Wofford 86-73.

Golf:

Pioneering black golfer Charlie Sifford will receive the nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, on Nov. 24 during a ceremony at the White House.

The 92-year-old Sifford has been compared to Jackie Robinson for finally breaking the PGA's color line when it reluctantly dropped its "Caucasian only" membership rule in 1961 and issued him full playing privileges on the PGA Tour. Sifford has been credited with opening the doors to other minority golfers. Tiger Woods has long called Sifford his grandfather and has said that were it not for Sifford and other pioneers, he may not have ever played golf.
