The NFL could soon have its first openly gay player.
Missouri All-American Michael Sam says he is gay, and the defensive end is eligible for the NFL draft in May.
Sam says he came out to his teammates and coaches at Missouri in August.

The 255-pound Sam participated in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., last month after leading the SEC with 11 1/2 sacks and 19 tackles for loss. He is projected to be a mid-round NFL draft pick.
At the Olympics in Sochi, Russia Maria Hoefl-Riesch won her second straight Olympic super-combined title Monday, with downhill leader Julia Mancuso settling for bronze.
Hoefl-Riesch was fifth fastest in the downhill, but her superior slalom skills gave her the gold.
In the NBA, the Knicks fell to the Thunder 112-100. Kevin Durant had 41 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Brooklyn had a 93-81 victory over New Orleans. Dallas topped Boston 102-91. Chicago took the Lakers 92-86. Orlando slid past Indiana 93-92. Cleveland defeated Memphis 91-83 in overtime. Washington topped Sacramento 93-84 and Philadelphia fell to the Clippers 123-78.
In college basketball, Oklahoma State star Marcus Smart won't be allowed to play again until Feb. 22 against Texas Tech.
Smart has been suspended three games by the Big 12 for shoving a fan in the closing seconds of the 19th-ranked Cowboys' loss at Texas Tech on Saturday.
On the scoreboard, No. 1 Syracuse defeated Clemson 57-44. It was No. 2 Arizona over Oregon St. 76-54. Wisconsin passed No. 9 Michigan St. 60-58. St. John’s beat No. 12 Creighton 70-65 and No. 22 UConn won against UCF 75-55.
