WAMC Helps Families In Need And The Environment

WAMC/Northeast Public Radio's Spring Fund Drive mobilized listeners to help families in need and lower our collective carbon footprint.

The drive began withjust over $285,000 already pledged in The Locked Box. Over the past week, WAMC staff and volunteers took calls, and listeners also pledged online.

WAMC also supported The Food Pantries of the Capital Region. Thanks to listeners contributing to WAMC in honor of The Food Pantries, WAMC was able to provide meals for 400 families and summer hygiene products for more than 250 needy families for the summer months.

The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts also benefitted from the support of WAMC listeners and Emily Fisher, helping the food insecure in Western Massachusetts and surrounding areas.

The Adirondack Council donated 200 Carbon Reduction Certificates to help WAMC reach its goal. Listeners who pledged to receive a certificate in the name of their choice helped prevent emission of one ton of CO2 from a Northeast power plant.

WAMC President and CEO Alan Chartock says, "I’m amazed every time we do this. Thank you all — without you, without the listeners, supporters and volunteers this isn't possible. We are extremely grateful."

WAMC is proud to support wonderful local organizations during its drives, and will continue to shed light on the great work they do. WAMC is a listener-supported station that relies on contributions to stay alive. Its fundraising primarily occurs three times a year: February, June, and October. Each drive has a $1 million goal to support the general operations of WAMC/Northeast Public Radio.
