A New York congressman has introduced a bill to help senior citizens age in place by providing a tax credit.
Congressman Antonio Delgado of the 19th District has introduced the Senior Accessible Housing Act to allow senior citizens to age in place by providing a tax credit to cover all of the costs of any home modifications, such as grab bars, wheelchair ramps, walk-in tubs and more. The hope is to encourage older residents to live independently as nursing homes are impacted by COVID-19. The legislation would allow senior citizens, especially those of lower-income, to take advantage of a lifetime $30,000 refundable tax credit to make necessary home improvements. Delgado introduced the bill with fellow Democrats Charlie Crist of Florida and Brenda Lawrence of Michigan.
