The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released on update on a remedial action for Little Thunder Brook, in the Rensselaer County Town of Nassau. The 1,900-foot tributary is in the drainage-way of the Dewey Loeffel Landfill Superfund Site.
General Electric reached an agreement with EPA to perform work at the site to remove PCB-contaminated sediment from the brook that flows into the Valatie Kill. But with 420 feet of the excavation work performed, high concentrations of PCBs extended further from the brook than anticipated.
Nassau Supervisor David Fleming was provided an update on the project by EPA earlier this week. He spoke with WAMC's Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard about how he believes contamination from the Superfund site has affected the community.
