Another state legislator from western Massachusetts is calling it quits.

Democratic State Representative Jose Tosado of Springfield is expected to announce this week that he will not seek re-election, according to Western Massachusetts Politics & Insight.

Earlier this week, State Rep. Aaron Vega of Holyoke, also a Democrat, said he would not run this year for a 5th term on Beacon Hill.

Meanwhile a special election is scheduled in March to fill the State Senate seat left vacant after Republican Don Humason become the mayor of Westfield.

For perspective on the legislative turnover, WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Western Mass Politics & Insight Editor-in-Chief Matt Szafranski.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
