EPA Transfers Ownership Of Access Road To Hudson River Cleanup Site

Jun 18, 2020

Ownership of an access road to the Hudson River PCB cleanup site in Fort Edward is being transferred to a local development agency.

On Thursday the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that it completed work to transfer the road used to access the PCB Superfund Site to the Warren and Washington Counties Industrial Development Agency.

EPA says the move supports efforts to redevelop the onetime sediment processing site at the former Fort Edward General Electric plant.

In a statement, WWIDA Chair Dave O’Brien said while developers have shown some interest in the waterfront site, “durable access over Lock 8 Way to the facility was an issue.”

Democratic U.S. Senator Charles Schumer described the transfer as a “thicket of multi-agency red tape” and said he hoped redevelopment will bring jobs to the area.

EPA Regional Administrator Pete Lopez thanked local and state officials for their involvement.
