Cohoes Closes Library After Wall Falls Onto Sidewalk

The City of Cohoes has closed its library due to questions about the structural integrity of the building after portions of a wall fell onto the sidewalk. Mayor Bill Keeler says a more comprehensive review of the structure will be done. The library on Mohawk Street is housed in a former church. Keeler says it’s been known that the building needs repairs and the library has been targeted by the city’s Restore Historic Cohoes Initiative.

The city plans to seek donations and grants to fund work on the building.

The city says those wishing to contribute to the “Save the Library” fund may do so via check, mailed to: The Cohoes Local Development Corporation, 97 Mohawk Street, Cohoes, NY 12047.
