Massachusetts Democrats Suspend Caucuses Over Coronavirus Concerns

Logo of the Massachusetts Democratic Party

The coronavirus is impacting politics-as-usual in Massachusetts.

The state legislature is looking at ways it might operate “virtually.”

With events including St Patrick’s parades and breakfasts being canceled there are fewer and fewer opportunities for retail politicking.

And, the Massachusetts Democratic Party has postponed the remaining caucuses to select delegates to this spring’s nominating convention.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with the chair of the Springfield Democratic City Committee, Jesse Lederman.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
