New York School Budget Ballot Deadlines Extended

The deadline for submitting school budget ballots by mail in New York has been extended.

Governor Andrew Cuomo on Sunday announced he would sign an executive order to support the extension. To be counted, school budget ballots can be hand-delivered through 5 p.m. on June 9th, and can be received by mail through June 16th .

The change comes after school districts expressed concern over voters submitting absentee ballots in time, with some reports of districts even having a lack of envelopes to mail the ballots to voters.

Cuomo also signed legislation on Sunday that would extend the absentee ballot deadline for the June 23rd primaries, allowing mail-in ballots to be postmarked by that date.

The Democratic governor previously issued executive orders to allow the voting-by-bail during the pandemic.
