Fourteen counties in New York have filed a lawsuit against generic drug manufacturers.
The counties are suing more than 30 drug manufacturers.
Schenectady County alleges that the generic drug manufacturers “conspired to fix prices, divided up markets and engaged in bid-rigging.” The county, which self-insures most of its medical costs, says it pays approximately $6 million per year.
In a statement Wednesday, county legislature chair Anthony Jasenski said the lawsuit “will ensure that the County recoups any moneys improperly paid due to unfair practices by these drug manufacturers.”
The county says it will only pay legal expenses if damages are recovered and that nearly $300,000 was recovered from a similar lawsuit between 2008 and 2015.
