New York will extend a program that provides mortgage assistance for state residents displaced by extreme weather.
Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement Sunday that the Interim Mortgage Assistance Program would be extended for six months.
Six years after Superstorm Sandy, the governor’s office says more than 200 eligible applicants are expected to benefit from the extension that is made possible by $3.9 million in state funding.
Amid a partial government shutdown, Cuomo says “New York is once again stepping up for communities affected by extreme weather.”
The extension is eligible for existing applicants who are “particularly vulnerable” and have not yet received IMA benefits. The program has disbursed more than $54 million to approximately 1,900 storm-impacted New Yorkers.
