Bill To Aid Saratoga Casino Hotel Passes State Legislature

Lawmakers who represent Saratoga Springs have announced passage of a bill to aid a gambling facility facing competition from Schenectady’s full-scale casino.

A bill intended to help the Saratoga Casino Hotel make capital improvements passed the state legislature before lawmakers adjourned their regular session Wednesday.

The bill sponsored by Republican Kathy Marchione in the Senate and Democrat Carrie Woerner in the Assembly allows small-to-medium-sized gambling facilities with up to 1,900 gaming machines to use 4 percent of their net wins to make improvements.

Saratoga Casino Hotel, home to video gaming machines, faces competition from the full-scale Rivers Casino and Resort located about 25 miles south in Schenectady.
