Cuomo To Increase Oversight Following Bid-Rigging Charges

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is creating a new position to review state contracts following charges of bid-rigging in state economic development programs.

The Democratic governor says Wednesday he'll appoint a chief procurement officer to examine contracts for wrongdoing as part of a plan to strengthen confidence in government.

Cuomo also plans to name separate inspector generals to investigate corruption at the State University of New York and City University of New York systems.

Lastly, Cuomo says he will no longer accept campaign contributions from companies during the bidding process for state contracts.

Earlier this fall federal authorities arrested several contractors, the former head of SUNY Polytechnic Institute and an ex-Cuomo aide following an investigation into bribery and bid-rigging in economic development programs. The men say they are innocent.
