American composer Michael Torke has just finished writing a new piece of music to commemorate Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s 50th Anniversary. The four-movement piece will be performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra this August.On a visit this week to the Yaddo artists’ retreat in Saratoga Springs, Torke and Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard sat down at the piano for the second part of WAMC’s series tracking the birth of the work.

Lucas Willard is a news reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011. He produces and hosts The Best of Our Knowledge and WAMC Listening Party.
