Renowned American composer Michael Torke, who has produced pieces for the Atlanta Olympic games, Disney, and penned numerous operas, is premiering a new work with the Philadelphia Orchestra at Saratoga Performing Arts Center this summer.

Torke is now in the first stages of forming the piece to coincide with SPAC's 50th Anniversary. In the first part of a new WAMC series focusing on the creation of a work of music, WAMC's Lucas Willard spoke with Torke, who walked us through the beginnings of his creative process.

Lucas Willard is a news reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011. He produces and hosts The Best of Our Knowledge and WAMC Listening Party.
