Transportation officials say teams have examined another 341 oil tank cars, 132 miles of track and 69 switches, finding five critical defects needing an immediate fix and 42 others.
In the most recent effort to reduce potential dangers from crude oil transports across New York, federal and state inspectors report examining tankers at the CSX Corporation's Frontier Rail Yard in Buffalo and at Canadian Pacific's Kenwood Yard in Albany.
They also examined several miles of CSX mainline track .
Two critical defects were found along a mile of Syracuse track and three on the 28 miles of track between Fonda and Rotterdam.
