Transportation officials say New York state plans to spend $1 million to renovate an interstate highway rest area along a gateway to the Adirondacks.
The Department of Transportation announced this week that construction is expected to begin by next summer at the rest area located on the northbound side of Interstate 87, also known as the Adirondack Northway north of Albany.
The rest area is located in southern Warren County, just south of Exit 18 at Glens Falls.
The facility gets heavy use by tourists headed to attractions in the Lake George area and the rest of the Adirondack region.
The upgrades will include adding a third restroom and providing space for the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau to use as a welcome area for tourists visiting the southern Adirondacks.
