Talk On Illnesses And History Set For New Lebanon

Few things were as terrifying to a young America in the early 19th Century than an epidemic, but these illnesses that spread and killed rapidly gave rise to the growth of Shaker herbs, the Tilden Pharmaceutical Company and the Spa at Lebanon Springs in Columbia County, New York. On Sunday afternoon, this tale of disease and the early response to it will be told at the New Lebanon Town Hall by Dr. Elisabeth Gitter, board president of the New Lebanon Library and professor emeritus at John Jay College.
