Town Takes On Postal Service

Residents of one upstate New York town are taking action - against the U.S. Postal Service - which is facing a $10 billion deficit this year.

When postal officials told the Shandaken town board they were proposing cost-cutting service changes that included cutting back hours at local post offices, they were met with hostility.

The Woodstock Times reports the board voted unanimously to authorize town supervisor Rob Stanley to write a letter to Congressman Chris Gibson, demanding that the postal service refrain from reducing hours at the Pine Hill, Highmount, and Big Indian post offices.

A Gibson staff member was at the meeting and promised to convey people’s comments to the Congressman.
