A new report from the nonprofit Tax Foundation shows people moving out of the state during the last decade took $45.6 billion in personal income from New York's economy, the most in the nation.
The Washington, D.C.-based foundation says its calculations and map showing migration among states from 2000 to 2010 are based on Internal Revenue Service data.
They show California the second-largest income loser, down $29.4 billion, followed by Illinois, down $20.4 billion.
The nonpartisan foundation says Florida had the biggest gain at $67.3 billion, followed by Arizona at $17.7 billion and Texas at $17.6 billion.
Among Northeastern states, New Hampshire gained $2.2 billion.
New Jersey lost $15.7 billion.
The total of personal income in New York was $646 billion in 2010.
The foundation says the data in 2010 dollars exclude births, deaths and foreign migration.
