Across the country, national parks and historic sites are opening once again to visitors.

The Springfield Armory National Historic Site visitor center and museum will reopen to the public on July 2.

The museum has been closed for the last 18 months.  During that the time the National Park Service completed a $1.6 million upgrade that focused on critical building systems.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke about the reopening plans with Kelly Fellner, Superintendent of the Springfield Armory National Historic Site.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
