Governor Signs Ethics Bill Into Law

Vermont Governor Phil Scott has signed into law a bill establishing a state ethics commission.
The measure creates a five-member commission that reviews cases of unethical behavior. The commission would then have the power to send cases to the attorney general's office.
Vermont is one of the few states without an ethics commission.

Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos is among those that say the bill is weak but a good first step. “We’ve got the beginnings of an ethics  system.  Vermont was one of three or four states that did not have an ethics commission.  So now we have that in place. So I think this is all good news for Vermont.”

Vermont’s governor signed the bill on Wednesday.
