North Adam Expands Its Urban Footprint

North Adams Redevelopment Authority

North Adams, Massachusetts will expand the boundaries of its urban footprint.

North Adams will expand its 1981 Urban Renewal Plan by at least a third. It will include a parcel from the Sons of Italy lot south to George Apkin & Sons and two vacant lots on West Main Street.  The plan was set to expire by 2021, but will be extended to 2025.

Mayor Richard Alcombright says the city or the Redevelopment Authority already own the properties, and the expansion was made to update the 36 year-old plan.

“We just wanted to make certain that the delineations, that the Urban Renewal map reflected the boundaries,” Alcombright says.

The expansion would not affect an effort to create an Extreme Model Railroad & Contemporary Architecture Museum or the Historic District boundaries.
