Middlebury College Prof Returns To U.S. From Iran

An Iranian religion professor at Vermont's Middlebury College who has been doing research in his native country since last summer has returned home to Vermont after President Donald Trump's executive order created uncertainty about his travel plans.
Assistant Professor of Religion Ata Anzali, his wife and 12-year-old daughter are legal permanent residents of the United States. Their 9-year-old daughter is a U.S. citizen.

They had flight reservations that would have had them arrive in New York last month, but they changed their plans because of the travel ban affecting Iran and six other majority Muslim nations.

Anzali tells WCAX-TV they decided Friday to fly to the U.S. after learning of a judge's ruling that allowed certain travelers from Iran to enter into the country.

Anzali plans to return to Middlebury as a professor this fall.
