Massachusetts Trucker Fined $2K After Getting Stuck In Notch

A Massachusetts trucker who blocked traffic for more than an hour has been fined $2,000 by Vermont State Police for ignoring numerous signs that prohibit large trucks on the road up Mount Mansfield through Smugglers Notch.
Vermont State Police were called at about 3:30 Monday afternoon after receiving a report that  tractor trailer operator Alexander Gendreau of Massachusetts was trying to back his semi out of the tight S-curves of the Notch road. Traffic was blocked for over an hour while Gendreau reversed his 53’ semi to an area where he could turn around.

State police say Gendreau passed three signs prohibiting tractor trailers from using the road, a summer shortcut between Cambridge and Stowe.

On July 1 Vermont implemented fines of up to $2,000 for truckers who ignore the signs and drive their rigs into the Notch and block traffic.
