The Vermont Senate has advanced a bill that would require most employers to provide workers with paid time off when they're sick.
The measure won preliminary approval Tuesday on a voice vote and is up for final action on Wednesday.
Under the Senate version — the House passed a similar bill last year — full-time Vermont workers would get at least three paid sick days in the first two years, rising to a minimum of five thereafter.
The Senate version calls for workers to accrue one hour of paid time off entitlement for each 52 hours worked.
The requirement would not apply to federal employees, those under 18 or temporary workers scheduled to work up to 20 weeks.
