Over A Dozen Vermont Employees To Lose Jobs

More than a dozen Vermont state employees are expected to be laid off next month as part of the state's first significant job reductions since the recession.

The 14 layoffs are spread across various departments. There are four in the Department of Taxes; two each in the Agency of Administration, Department of Mental Health and Department of Financial Regulation. There will be  one each in the Secretary of State's office, the state Treasurer's office, the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Criminal Justice Training Council.

A Human Resources official tells the Burlington Free Press that the layoffs take effect July 11.

Governor Peter Shumlin's administration also expects to cut 48 vacant positions and a number of employees are expected to retire through an incentive program, leaving 225 jobs vacant.
